Commercial FAQs

How can I purchase materials for field joints or subsea equipment?

We would be excited to share our case studies and help you. Email ODYSEA OR call us at +1-337-369-3761.

Do you provide training to understand this material better?

Yes! We can provide a range of resources from the ISO 12736 dossier, helpful videos, to experts ranging on the material, processing, and applications across line pipe, field joint, or subsea equipment.

How can my team learn more about your product?

Let’s schedule an introductory call. Email ODYSEA OR call us at +1-337-369-3761.

Can you ship the material to my country, and what is the lead time?

Yes, we can ship GDLX globally. Ex-works lead times vary based on the quantity (a few drums) to dozens of isotainers. Typically for small volumes, we have material in stock or readily available. For large offshore project volumes, we prefer to have at least 10-12 week notice.

What is your relationship with ExxonMobil?

Flowline and field joint solutions are being brought to market through ExxonMobil’s partnership with ODYSEA. You can read more about it here:

What is your relationship with The Bayou Companies?

ODYSEA is a division of The Bayou Companies. We share a parent company and ultimate ownership is the same.

Where can I access a GDLX track record?

GDLX has been successfully deployed on a major offshore project for a well-recognized International Oil Company (IOC) utilizing Subsea7 as the reel-lay vessel provider and overall subsea project contractor and installer. You can read more about that here: https://www.materia-inc.com/what-good-things-are-happening/news/02202023_odysea-and-subsea7-utilize-proxxima-technology-on-gulf-of-mexico-deepwater-pipeline

GDLX has been utilized on several subsea jumpers and on multiple titanium stress joints for globally known IOCs. We are regularly adding to our track record, especially internationally as we train more and more people on the technology.

Technical FAQs

What are the min./max. temperature and pressure operating ranges for GDLX?

Is GDLX effective for subsea equipment?

Absolutely! GDLX has been utilized on several subsea jumpers and on multiple titanium stress joints for globally known IOCs. Applicators appreciate that the material is both tough and durable (helpful in transport and installation) but also its low viscosity enables it to flow into very tight spaces making it a fantastic material for complex geometries.

Feedback from applicators has been very positive – customers appreciate the ability to utilize the opportunity for ambient substrate temperature molding and the coating efficiency versus materials used today.

Which pipelaying methods can I use GDLX for?

GDLX has been tested by multiple offshore installers across vessels utilizing incumbent clamping methods. It has track record with reel-lay and its predecessor version has track record with J-Lay. ODYSEA has an extensive dossier with relevant bending, SST and installation information. All of the large global offshore installers are familiar with GDLX.

Must I use GDLX for line pipes to apply it on field joints?

No! GDLX field joints can be successfully utilized with other parent line pipe coatings. ODYSEA can share data, video and best practices when working with other line pipe coatings to maximize success.

Can GDLX be applied instead of traditional 5LPP/GsPP insulation to line pipes?

Absolutely – GDLX is a competitive solution often resulting in lower total cost of ownership for clients vs. 5LPP/GsPP. Additionally, the technology enables faster coatings (less schedule), local content and has a lower carbon footprint.

What materials/substrates is GDLX compatible with/adheres well to?

GDLX is compatible with a variety of materials/substrates. A non-exhaustive list includes: HBE HT, Intertherm 3070, Power Crete R150, GSPU, FBE/CMPP for multilayer PP and abrasive blasted substrates.

Where can I access a specification sheet?

Has GDLX been ISO 12076 qualified?

Yes! The technology has undergone a rigorous qualification program utilizing best-in-industry testing house and global laboratories. The technology has been approved by multiple global IOCs including ExxonMobil and Chevron. We have an extensive dossier that tracks to the ISO 12076 standards that is available for potential customers and partners.

Are there limitations to the applied GDLX thickness or pipe size?

Traditional insulation thickness specifications for offshore energy projects range from 25mm to 100mm of insulation applied on pipe diameters ranging from 150mm to 600mm. GDLX can be successfully applied in all these use cases.

Equipment/Operations FAQs

What equipment is needed to use GDLX on subsea equipment?

Simple & robust processing can be accomplished with a 2-component mix metering equipment (same for field joints).

What equipment supports GDLX as a field joint material?

Simple & robust processing can be accomplished with a 2-component mix metering equipment (same for subsea equipment).

Do you have a safe handling guide for these materials?

Yes! Our safe handling guide is based on industry best practices and provided in collaboration with ExxonMobil. Email ODYSEA OR call us at +1-337-369-3761.

Is the GDLX pipe coating equipment / process mobile?

Absolutely! GDLX is a mobile-first technology intended to positively benefit operators, installers and local communities. The GDLX coating process can be executed in-country driving logistics savings, reducing risk, offering schedule flexibility and supporting local content goals. GDLX process technology was built to be globally transportable in approximately 12 high-cube containers and can be deployed in-country during project needs. Lead times for startup are well-aligned with normal offshore project schedules.
